Proceeds from the evening will benefit Southeast Ventura County YMCA programs including Find My Genius, a free five-week summer program for low- and moderate-income students who are not reading at grade level. Over 400 young scholars participated this summer. The Y is expanding the program by partnering with the Conejo Valley Unified, Las Virgenes Unified and Moorpark Unified school districts to offer Find My Genius after-school programs during the new school year.
Other programs earmarked to receive funding from gala donations are Safety Around Water, a no-cost program designed to teach children water safety and basic swimming skills and Youth & Government, which provides high school youth hands-on opportunities to experience government and become civically engaged and responsible adults.
The gala will honor Chuck and Melinda Carmichael, Simi Valley residents and longtime YMCA supporters, with the Joel and Frances McCrea Memorial Award. "Over the years, Chuck and Melinda have supported countless causes and organizations in our community including the Simi Valley Family YMCA," says Ronnie Stone, President/CEO of the Southeast Ventura County YMCA. "Their dedication to giving back is truly remarkable."
The YMCA is a nonprofit organization serving Conejo Valley, Simi Valley, Westlake Village, Oak Park, Agoura Hills and Moorpark. It is committed to building positive relationships, impacting lives and strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living programs and social responsibility.
The major sponsor for the evening is the accounting firm HCVT, LLP with offices in Westlake Village and the Haye Family. For more information and to order tickets, call 805-497-3081 or go to https://www.sevymca.org/
