Celebrating Black Business Month By Supporting MN Black-Owned Bookstore

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Aug. 15, 2022 - PRLog -- As part of National Black Business Month, Dr. Artika Tyner, founder of Planting People Growing Justice™, is seeking the support of the community to make the PPGJ's bookstore their bookstore of choice. The PPGJ bookstore is a premier resource for books representing the BIPOC community.

Celebrated every August, National Black Business Month was created in 2004 by historian John William Templeton and engineer Frederick E. Jordan Sr. The purpose is to bring attention to the needs of the 3.12 million Black-owned businesses across the U.S. Those businesses employ 3.56 million people and generate $206 billion in annual revenues.

Tyner founded a publishing house and press in 2017 to address the literacy gap, promote diversity in books, and inspire the next generation of leaders. Since then, the social enterprise has expanded its collection and bookshops. The first children's book published by the Black woman-owned press won prestigious awards and more award-winning books followed.

PPGJ offers books that feature the history, culture, and art of African Americans. The books inspire, encourage reading, and help disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline. The bookstore celebrates diversity, equity, and inclusion in its books and provides foundational skills for life.

The PPGJ Bookstore hosts a variety of events to encourage reading that includes book giveaways at schools, book fairs, and pop-up shops. The organization seeks to create social change through leadership training and education. Books at the PPGJ bookstore provide essential representation and introduce children to new opportunities, career pathways, and core STEM competencies.
