Plaza West Covina and West Covina Rotary Club donate $20K to West Covina Unified Family Resource Cen

WEST COVINA, Calif. - Aug. 5, 2022 - PRLog -- Plaza West Covina recently hosted a successful Get-School-Ready Charity Breakfast. Plaza West Covina along with the West Covina Rotary Club recently donated $10,000 each, for a combined $20K effort, to provide one hundred West Covina Unified School District students—ranging from elementary to high school—with a $200 back-to-school shopping spree. The event kicked off with a breakfast before keynote speakers Claudia Uballez, Associate Producer for Telemundo and two-time Emmy Award winner, and Actor/Director Sean Michael Afable took the stage. Afterwards, volunteers accompanied each student to shop at Plaza West Covina retailers.

"It is an honor for us to be a part of supporting the academic success of the amazing youth in our community," said Marketing Director at Plaza West Covina Sweeney Mae Montinola. "We hope that this shopping spree gives these students the confidence to start off the school year ready to learn and achieve great things."

Notable attendees to the event included Denise Knutsen, Assistant Superintendent of the Educational Services Division at West Covina Unified; Devon Rose, Director of Student Services at West Covina Unified; the West Covina Rotary Club; Iso Nakasato from Athens Services; Raquel Karimian, founder of Black and Widow; and the Greater West Covina Business Association along with Executive Director and Founder Monica Farias.

"The smiles that this event has produced on our students has made all the hard work worth it," said Rose. "Being able to provide new clothing for our students is something we have not been able to do previously, and this is amazing. We appreciate all the hard work from Plaza West Covina, the Rotary Club, and all the volunteers."
