South Asian Streaming Service Cpics Names Kavi Raz as CEO
Co-founder, producer, director and actor Kavi Raz appointed CEO ahead of Cpic's Fall 2022 launch.
Raz, born in India and raised in the UK, was one of the first South Asian actors to appear as a regular on an American Television show with his role as Dr. Vijay Kochar on the popular 80's series St. Elsewhere. As an experienced actor, writer, director and producer, Raz recognizes the need for more diversity and representation in entertainment. Cpics first and foremost showcases South Asian stories, starting with film and television across all genres with plans to expand into other markets post launch. With his 30+ years of experience in the industry, Raz aims to provide access, content, and community to the South Asian diaspora and beyond.
"It's an honor to be named CEO of Cpics and to work alongside this wonderful team to bring important stories to audiences worldwide," says Raz. "I've always been troubled by the lack of representation of South Asian creators in film and television. Cpics is a solution to that problem, and I look forward to delivering this content through Cpics to all audiences."
Under Raz's direction, the content strategy for the streaming service has been developed and he has personally produced and directed some of its most anticipated original content. He has also championed their recently launched mentorship program and will continue to reach out to develop new voices. As the streaming service launches, Raz will focus on driving revenue and subscriber growth while continuing to build the talent pool at Cpics.
Set to launch in Fall 2022, Cpics will feature a diverse range of original projects such as The Gems of Ruby Hill, Dating Desi Ishstyle, The Plaza, and Bollywood Dance Academy.
