Research Suggests That Mega-Dosing Vit D Is Bad For Bones

IRVINE, Calif. - Aug. 2, 2022 - PRLog -- Whanganui, New Zealand, No one will dispute the importance of maintaining adequate vitamin D levels in the body. Still, research suggests that the fad of mega-dosing with vitamin D, made popular during the recent COVID pandemic, might actually be damaging our bones.

In a stroke of irony, it was Vitamin D deficiency, which was attributed to bone disease in children during the industrial revolution, that led to the establishment of a recommended daily allowance. Fast forward 200 years, and we are seeing the first signs that too much Vitamin D might play a role in bone disease in the elderly.

In August 2019, the results of a three-year double-blind randomized control study* of 311 subjects were published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). The study showed that subjects taking either 4000 IU or 10,000 IU of vitamin D3 per day had significantly lower bone mineral density than those taking just 400 IU per day. Researchers concluded that Vitamin D, when taken alone and in very high doses (i.e., 5000 IU and above), actually reduces the density of bone and could accelerate the onset of osteoporosis in older people.

Fortunately, another major scientific study** was published a year later in 2020 that examined the benefit of combining Vitamin D3 with Vitamin K2. The study was a meta-analysis of pooled data from eight previous randomized controlled trials (RCTs), including 971 subjects. This proved and validated that Vitamin D3 with Vitamin K2 is an important combination for protecting bone mineral density and increasing bone strength and should always be used together.

This research is important to us at FREZZOR New Zealand because we have invested heavily in developing a supplement combination of an all-natural Vitamin D3 sourced from New Zealand sheep's wool with the combination of Vitamin K2. Each serving provides an optimal 2000IU of Vitamin D3 and 80mcg of Vitamin K2. In addition, we have added our patent-pending botanical blend called UAF1000+, which exerts a novel Double-A action (Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory), making this bone health supplement even more effective at improving bone density and remineralization, as well as osteoblast remodeling and turnover of the bone matrix; an essential process in maintaining strong healthy bones.
