EDMONTON, Alberta - Aug. 1, 2022 - PRLog -- The Junior Ice Hockey World Championship 2022 will be the 46th world junior championship under the leadership of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The championship will take place in August, in Edmonton, Canada, on the Rogers Place ice.

Traditionally, the junior championship is held in December-January, but at the very end of the year the tournament was interrupted due to an outbreak of coronavirus among the players. Therefore, it was decided to postpone the championship for the summer, the tournament will be replayed from scratch, the matches will be held from August 9 to 20, 2022.

10 national junior teams take part in the championship, but due to world events, the Russian team was suspended from participating in the tournament. Instead of the Russian command in Edmonton the combined team of Latvia U20 will act.

At the group stage, the teams are divided into two groups, each team plays one match with each in its group. Group A is played by junior teams from Canada, Finland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Latvia. Group B consists of the United States, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

Last year, the Junior World Championship was also held in Edmonton, but in a special format due to the coronavirus - without spectators in the stands. The United States won the gold medals in 2021, Canada won the silver medal and Finland won the bronze medal.
