Fostering Media Connections' Youth Voice Program Presents Pack to the Future: A Backpack Drive for College-Bound Youth
LOS ANGELES - July 25, 2022 - PRLog -- Fostering Media Connections (FMC) and its Youth Voice Program will kick off the fall with its first event dedicated to college-bound youth. Pack to the Future: A Backpack Drive for College-bound Foster Youth will be held Saturday, August 13, 2022 from 11:00 am to 4:30 pm at Isana Nascent Academy, Jefferson Campus in Los Angeles, California. This is a new project benefiting foster youth in high school and college.
Although many youth in foster care want to go to college, studies show only 20% to 25% actually enroll, and only 3% earn a 4-year degree. A lack of resources is one of the most commonly reported barriers to higher education faced by youth in foster care. The need for school supply drives serving older children has become apparent as many drives provide items to younger children. Foster youth pursuing higher education can struggle to find support in their communities.
It is part of FMC's mission to elevate the voices of system-impacted youth by providing resources, education, and opportunities to thrive. The backpack giveaway will ensure at least 200 Los Angeles-area high school and college students get the supplies they need to be successful in school.
All donations to Pack to the Future: A Backpack Drive for College-bound Foster Youth are tax deductible. Supporters can order items off the Amazon wishlist available here: https://a.co/
This drive is open to individuals with lived experience with the child welfare system who are in high school or are college-bound. Current and former foster youth can register to receive a backpack at Pack the the Future: Application (https://forms.gle/
