Chicago 1893 Releases Free Augmented Reality Experience to Smartphones

CHICAGO - Sept. 8, 2022 - PRLog -- The Chicago 1893 media project has extended into new forms of reality by releasing a free augmented reality experience to smartphones.

"Seeing these buildings rendered digitally and layered over a camera view of the physical world while traveling across the country has been awesome. Very grateful that these developers have given us the opportunity to launch this project into augmented reality", remarked Chicago 1893 Project Lead Michael Finney.

"We are really excited about the project and innovative uses of metaverse technology to create immersive experiences for history education and learning. The partnership will open new avenues for engaging content distribution and reaching new users locally and globally", said Robert Rice the CEO of Omniscape.

Phase 1 of the project sees the recreation of structures located around what was known as the Grand Basin at the Columbian Exposition, which was held in Jackson Park on the south side of Chicago in 1893.

About Chicago 1893

Over 125 years ago the Columbian Exposition was staged in Chicago on Lake Michigan's shoreline. Visitors from around the country and world were first introduced to many industrial technologies and commercial offerings that would shape 20th century culture. This project explores the event through historical documentation and juxtaposes it against living remnants in art and architecture around the city as a legacy to the 1893 World's Fair.
