Meals on Wheels South Florida Partners With Florida Power & Light Company

Partnership To Deliver More Than 1,000 Hurricane Preparedness Meal Kits To Homebound Clients

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - July 10, 2022 - PRLog -- Thanks to the generosity of Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), Meals on Wheels South Florida (MOWSOFLO) will provide hurricane season relief by delivering packages of shelf-stable disaster meals to more than 400 homebound seniors between July 11-13, 2022.

In an effort to prepare for an already active hurricane season, this initiative focuses on preparing those with great risk of catastrophic health events should any hurricanes or tropical storms temporarily interrupt normal meal delivery services.

FPL employee volunteers and MOWSOFLO team members will distribute these shelf-stable hurricane preparedness meal kits to the most vulnerable clients on the MOWSOFLO waiting list through a donation made possible by the generosity of FPL. The hurricane preparedness meal kits include three days of shelf-stable food and water in the event a major storm impacts the area. All current MOWSOFLO clients will also receive disaster meals through the Federal Older Americans Act funding for home-delivered meals.

"We're working with the communities we serve to make Florida an even better place to work and raise a family. And, part of that commitment includes helping our most vulnerable customers prepare for hurricane season," FPL Director of External Affairs Timothy Bryant said.

"We are so grateful to have the support of FPL this summer as we prepare our seniors for another hurricane season," said Mark Adler, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels South Florida. "Through this collaborative effort, we are able to serve as many seniors as possible in a very short period of time."
