The Jacksonville Branch NAACP Announces 57th Annual Freedom Fund Award Ceremony

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - June 27, 2022 - PRLog -- The Jacksonville Branch will present their annual Freedom Fund Awards Ceremony focusing largely on encouraging and educating the community to return to the polls this November. Whom you vote for matters. The theme of this year's event is " VOTE! Because Our Lives Depend on It". The program will feature voter education to amplify the message of being active.

The NAACP Freedom Fund dinner began in 1953 (on a national level) as a ten year program to intensify efforts to complete the job of emancipation. The Jacksonville branch held its first Freedom Fund Dinner in the cafeteria of the Brewster Hospital in June 1963. The speaker was Medgar Evers, the heroic Mississippi Field Secretary.

The annual fundraiser dinner for the NAACP is an awards ceremony where the Jacksonville Branch pays tribute to those who have dedicated their time and energy in pursuing equality in a variety of areas.  The awardees represent interests in education, government, business, and community service.

The Jacksonville Branch will host its 57th event on September 29 at 7 pm. This year's event will be held virtually and will stream on Facebook and youtube. The speaker will be Dr. Frederick D. Haynes, III, Senior Pastor of the Friendship-West Baptist Church.
