Parkinson's Across America Cross-Country Journey Commences June 2022

Jim Morgan and Scott Rider will journey across America's heartland to raise awareness and inspire hope for people with Parkinson's disease and those that love and care for them

BEAUFORT, S.C. - June 8, 2022 - PRLog -- Parkinson's Across America has released their itinerary for their multi-month, cross-country road trip and documentary. Hoping to provide the world with an educational yet personal look into what life is like with Parkinson's disease, the Parkinson's Across America team has announced they will be visiting the following cities from June through October: Beaufort, SC; Sumter County, FL; Gainesville, FL; Nashville, TN; Charleston, SC; Charlotte, NC; Raleigh, NC; Columbus, OH; Indianapolis, IN; Chicago, IL; Denver, CO; Salt Lake City, UT; Los Angeles, CA; Las Vegas, NV; and Phoenix, AZ. Their first stop was the June 4th "Party for Parkinson's" kick-off event, which was the culmination of the Southern Living Adaptive Cottage project and resulted in a $200,000 check to the Parkinson's Foundation.

Scott and Jim will meet with care partners, physicians, exercise experts, nutritionists, researchers, and clinicians who are trying to find a cure for Parkinson's disease. During their journey, they will also be interviewing people who are making a difference in the Parkinson's community, shining a spotlight on the Parkinson's Foundation's Centers of Excellence network, and checking out the programs being funded in local communities through Moving DayⓇ, A Walk for Parkinson's, events across the country.

60,000 people are diagnosed with Parkinson's disease (PD) in the United States each year. Affecting 1 million Americans and 10 million people worldwide, PD is the second most common neurological disease after Alzheimer's disease. It's associated with a progresssive loss of motor control, as well as non-motor symptoms. 90% of people in the U.S. with PD receive inadequate medical care, which needs to change because people with Parkinson's can live for decades with the disease when they receive quality care.

"We are confident that Parkinson's Across America will raise awareness of Parkinson's disease and the mission of the Parkinson's Foundation to make life better for people whose lives have been touched by Parkinson's disease. We wish you luck, Scott and Jim," said John L. Lehr, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Parkinson's Foundation
