This year, the TSIC graduation event was held on May 23 at St. Augustine High School in St. Augustine, Fla. Eighteen TSIC students graduated with a special program highlighting the academic achievements each earned over the course of their high school careers. Graduating scholars earned college scholarships funded by individual donors, corporate sponsors, and fundraising partners. Tim Forson, Superintendent of the St. Johns County School District, delivered opening remarks and recognized students, mentors, teachers, high school principals, school board members, INK! staff, and volunteers, among others.
Students are selected for TSIC when they are in the eighth grade in St. Johns County public schools. Upon acceptance into the program, students sign a contract to maintain a 2.5 grade point average (GPA), maintain good behavior and attendance, and remain drug and crime free. The program continues to be the only public-private partnership of its kind in the U.S.
One hundred percent of all monetary donations received by INK! for the Take Stock in Children program are directed to the purchase of scholarships for St. Johns County students and fully matched by the Florida Prepaid Foundation. Community partners and business owners have provided significant support which helps with an increasing demand for academic funding and the need for educational assistance as the burgeoning county grows, new schools are built and opened, and students arrive from across the U.S.
According to Donna Lueders, INK! Executive Director, the graduation event serves as a meaningful recognition of an outstanding group of graduates from the class of 2022.
According to James Wheeler, INK! Operations & Student Programs Director, all graduating seniors received scholarships, while several students were recognized for exceptional achievement during the ceremony.
INK! promotes academic success for all St. Johns County public school students by providing innovative programs and resources to support over 47,000 students and approximately 2,785 teachers. The office is located at 1 Christopher St. in St. Augustine. For more information, contact Donna Lueders at 904-547-7120 or email Donna.Lueders@
