Follow on Google News | Plans For An Indian Jewelry Shop In South Slope Brooklyn's 7th Ave Put On "Hold"Lacking landlord's desired product offering, retailer in South Slope face bidding war for affordable commercial properties available for lease.
By: Jose Franco "During COVID, Javier Rosario and his wife Anna, found that 'retail therapy' is really a thing — people needed a pick-me-up after being home all day, and buying pretty jewelry helped lift their spirits," said Evelyn Trout, of Realtors dot com. "Being in a Zoom call, wearing the same jewelry every day was starting to bore women. Indian women love gold and diamond jewelry anyway — pile COVID on top of that and you have a winning business idea. Because Anna's store would be the only woman Indian jeweler in South Slope Brooklyn NY, women are more comfortable buying jewelry, which is personal, from a woman." Unfortunately, the proposed location (443 7th Ave) reasonable rent created a bidding war. The retail space is on 15th street and 7th Ave, where retail vacancies are rare. Shahid Blatfitt, the new owner of Khan Convenience Store (445 7th Ave) tells us the asking rent is "too much". Mr Blatfitt, after paying the previous tenant 75k, recently signed a 15 year lease for $2600 a month. We called 917-797-4867 (phone number on "For Rent" sign) a man (refused to give his name) stated, "the property is available for the right kind of tenant. We're hoping to add a business that's in-line with South Slope's community values - something like an established after school program is preferred over a barber shop, massage parlor or a vape shop". https://patch.com/ End
