MahoganyBooks owners celebrate 20th wedding anniversary at Juneteenth celebrationBy: MahoganyBooks "This Juneteenth, we wanted to honor our ancestors who were denied the right to read and write as well as matrimony. When viewed through a historical lens, Black marriage is a challenge to structural and institutional racism which broke so many families apart, and we are still dealing with its after effects in our community. We hope to inspire others to endure and persevere in their personal and professional goals," stated Derrick Young, MahoganyBooks co-owner. "This is a major milestone for us personally and professionally. If Derrick and I would not have met 20 years ago on the dancefloor, MahoganyBooks wouldn't exist the way it does today, 15 years later. MahoganyBooks, the business, and our daughter were born out of our love and commitment to each other. This is why we want to celebrate with our family, friends, the community at-large, and our customers because we wouldn't be at this moment without their support," emphasized Ramunda Young, co-owner of MahoganyBooks. Juneteenth celebration details may be found at http://www.mahoganybooks.com/ About MahoganyBooks Started in 2007 by husband and wife, Derrick and Ramunda Young, MahoganyBooks has one of the largest online inventories of books for and about people of the African Diaspora. It has grown from being exclusively an online bookstore to opening the doors of their first physical location in the historic Washington, DC neighborhood of Anacostia in 2014, then their flagship location at National Harbor, Prince George's County, Maryland in 2021. Derrick and Ramuda's love for culture, community, and connection and their desire to see books empower others as it had empowered them.
