NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. - June 2, 2022 - PRLog -- MahoganyBooks owners, Derrick and Ramunda Young will commemorate their 20th wedding anniversary with a vow renewal ceremony at their Juneteenth celebration. The event will take place at their flagship bookstore at National Harbor located in Prince George's County, Maryland. The MahoganyBooks Juneteenth celebration also includes book signings featuring White House Correspondent for The Grio April Ryan, retired NBA player, author, and speaker Etan Thomas, and New York Times Bestselling author Dhonielle Clayton. The event will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the vow renewal ceremony at 11:00 a.m. and the book signings beginning at 1:00 p.m. Guests are asked to wear red, black and green in honor of the enslaved ancestors of African Americans and to donate a children's book.

"This Juneteenth, we wanted to honor our ancestors who were denied the right to read and write as well as matrimony. When viewed through a historical lens, Black marriage is a challenge to structural and institutional racism which broke so many families apart, and we are still dealing with its after effects in our community. We hope to inspire others to endure and persevere in their personal and professional goals," stated Derrick Young, MahoganyBooks co-owner.

"This is a major milestone for us personally and professionally.  If Derrick and I would not have met 20 years ago on the dancefloor, MahoganyBooks wouldn't exist the way it does today, 15 years later. MahoganyBooks, the business, and our daughter were born out of our love and commitment to each other.  This is why we want to celebrate with our family, friends, the community at-large, and our customers because we wouldn't be at this moment without their support," emphasized Ramunda Young, co-owner of MahoganyBooks.
