'The Lost Boys' Fans Must Feed

But Reboots Give Them Indigestion; Here's What Fans Really Want

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - June 30, 2022 - PRLog -- Reboots are the industry's preferred method of infusing new life into beloved franchises by introducing them to younger audiences who may be unfamiliar with the source material while drawing in older fans by name recognition alone, This method is far from fool-proof, though, as too much change can lose the magic that made the original work, and not enough raises the question "What's the point?"

There is a way to satisfy fans' need for new content, and draw in new blood. New stories that stand on their own, but reward long-time fans by tying in to the source material. CW has shown us what doesn't work with their reboot series The Lost Boys which had not one, but two failed pilots, one in 2019, then (after reshoots and even recasting) a second in 2020, both of which fell short of network expectations.

But the franchise is getting new content from rather unexpected sources. A Lost Boys Story, G Tom Mac's musical take on the story will hit the stage next year. G Tom Mac wrote and performed The Lost Boys' theme song "Cry Little Sister," for the 1987 film, and his musical centers around the events from the film, but offers more insight into the characters with new interactions between them and backstories for some that the film left blank.

Before that, another Lost Boys story we'll be getting is a short fan film, The Lost. Set to release on the 35th Anniversary of the original film, July 31st, 2022, this film also gives us something new: how the Boys deal with a rival gang. They've just released a new trailer for their film.

It looks like unless the studios catch the hint, the future of many franchises may come from outside the usual channels. Who knows how many more stories are out there looking for their audiences?

Their website will feature the short film's premiere on Sunday July 31st, 2022 at 6:00 pm PDT, and you can find more information there: http://www.TheLostFanFilm.com
