Salut d'Amour for Alto Flute and Piano

Edward Elgar wrote Salut d'Amour in 1888 as an engagement gift for his beloved future wife, Caroline Alice Roberts, who became his inspiration and greatest champion.  It was Elgar's first published work, and his dedication on the piece reads "à Carice", a fusion of his fiancée's forenames Caroline and Alice.  Though written originally for piano solo, arrangements were soon created by the composer himself for violin and piano, and for orchestra.  Elgar's original title for the work was "Liebesgruss" (Love's Greeting), but his publisher (Schott & Co.) renamed it Salut d'Amour.  Salut d'Amour is now one of Elgar's most widely recognized pieces, and its great popularity has led to additional arrangements for a wide variety of instruments.  Noteworthy Sheet Music has just created a transcription of Salut d'Amour for alto flute and piano, adapted from the public domain editions published by Schott for violin and piano, oboe and piano, or orchestra.  The piece is highly romantic, and especially moving when played on alto flute.
