School Board President Candidate Roger Moss to Hold Public Listening Sessions

SAVANNAH, Ga. - May 9, 2022 - PRLog -- The community, parents, teachers and friends of students in the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System are invited to share their thoughts and priorities at public listening sessions hosted by Roger Moss, candidate for the School Board President position on the Chatham County Board of Education.

The evening sessions are intended to provide Moss with direct feedback to better understand issues parents are facing relating to their children's educational needs and to confirm that his stated priorities are indeed the priorities of his constituents.

"It is imperative our district listens to the wants and needs of our community, and we need to be accountable to the public," Moss said. "I have the drive and passion for leading the school board. It will be 'all hands on deck' from day one. My campaign is about putting students first, so hearing directly from parents and the public will be instrumental in ensuring success."

The listening sessions will be held on the following dates at these specified locations:
  • May 9: Savannah Jewish Educational Alliance, 5111 Abercorn St, Savannah, GA 31405
  • May 10: W.W. Law Community Center, 900 E Bolton St, Savannah, GA 31401
  • May 11: Cloverdale Neighborhood Center, 1919 Cynthia St, Savannah, GA 31405
  • May 12: Windsor Forest Community Center, 308 Briarcliff Cir, Savannah, GA 31419
  • May 16: National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force, 175 Bourne Ave, Pooler, GA 31322
Each session will be held from 6-7 p.m.

As stated in his campaign announcement, Moss' goals, if elected, include making Chatham County the "gold standard" of public education, regardless of zip code. He wants to put children first and have a solid foundation to help them grow into the leaders of tomorrow. Moss would like to increase parent involvement and awareness while ensuring that students do not have to face a one-size-fits-all education model.

"I would like to see SCCPSS students presented with an array of life and occupational choices in addition to the college route, from trades to military services," said Moss. "When the students are given a chance to meet folks and hear about a multitude of career paths, it can truly change their future trajectory."

He strongly believes the school system should provide a culture of excellence that all students can strive toward, with high expectations and academic standards. "When you operate in an environment that focuses on excellence and achievement, it raises everyone up," Moss said. "If we provide excellent instruction at all of our schools, it will allow each and every student to grow and achieve."
