American Cannabis Nurses Association Calls for Decriminalization, Descheduling of CannabisACNA is committed to advancing excellence in cannabis nursing practice through advocacy, collaboration, education, research, and policy development.
By: ACNA The ACNA policy and positioning statement, written by the ACNA Policy and Government Advocacy Committee and adopted by the ACNA Board of Directors, voices ACNA's continued alignment with the American Nurses Association (ANA) in acknowledging the need for cannabis patients to have open access to therapeutic cannabis treatment without fear of prosecution. The ACNA policy and positioning statement, available for review on the ACNA website, supports ACNA's stance that the time has come to deschedule and decriminalize cannabis. The ACNA is aligned with the American Nurses Association (ANA) in acknowledging that as long as cannabis remains a Schedule I drug, ongoing research is blocked. As well, ACNA is in alignment with the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML), Americans for Safe Access (ASA) and Patients Out of Time (POT). These organizations comprise the largest national member-based organization of patients, medical professionals, scientists, and concerned citizens promoting safe and legal access to cannabis for therapeutic use and research. ACNA is committed to advancing excellence in cannabis nursing practice through advocacy, collaboration, education, research, and policy development. As ACNA develops and grows, one of ACNA's most significant goals is to become recognized as a nursing specialty.
