Lt. Governor Candidate Renitta Shannon Garners Statewide attention After Atlanta Press Club Debate

ATLANTA - May 6, 2022 - PRLog -- Georgia's Lt. Governor Candidate Renitta Shannon is making headlines for her efforts to support the protection of reproductive rights. The headlines are on the heels of  the leaked Supreme Court draft on abortion rights. The touchy topic was an important discussion point at the Democratic Lieutenant Governors Candidates' debate sponsored by the Atlanta Press Club.

Shannon has always been an advocate for reproductive freedom and has demonstrated so by putting her body on the line to help expand postpartum Medicaid and protecting access to abortions through telemedicine during her tenure as a Georgia House Represenative. In both efforts, she and her caucus were successful. When asked about her stance on the Supreme Court's controversial decision, she firmly stated that "...access to Abortion is healthcare, and access to healthcare is life-saving."

Another brewing topic is her stance on defeating climate change. Her plan as Lt. Governor is to work with environmental agencies and to move legislation to hold larger corporations accountable. She notes, "a lot of times on this issue, folks are asking individuals to solve the climate change issue; and while it's important that individuals do their part, what we really need is legislation on the books to really work to change what's going on with climate change."

Shannon's race to the Lt. Governor's seat is historic as she is the only Black, LGBTQ+, female democratic candidate in the race. Ahead of election day on May 24th, she has been endorsed by  The Working Families Party of Georgia, NGP Pac arm-CFANG, Black Male Voter Project, Elect Black Women, LPAC, Fund Her, She the People, Georgia Equality, NARAL, Matriarch Pac, and others! She has even received celebrity endorsements from legendary actress Jamie Lynn Curtis, Bravo Tv's Dr. Heavenly Kimes, and FX Pose Actress Angelica Ross.
