Snell & Wilmer Attorneys Awarded Pro Bono Service Award by The Federal Bar Association, Utah Chapter

SALT LAKE CITY - May 2, 2022 - PRLog -- Snell & Wilmer is pleased to announce that Salt Lake attorneys Stewart O. Peay (https://www.swlaw.com/people/stewart_peay), Ben T. Welch and Annika L. Jones (https://www.swlaw.com/people/annika-jones) have been awarded one of three Pro Bono Service Awards by the Utah Chapter of the Federal Bar Association (https://www.fedbar.org/utah-chapter/) ("FBA").

Yearly, the FBA and the Utah federal court seek to recognize a law firm that has went above and beyond in providing pro bono representation. Because of the pandemic, however, the FBA has not recognized a law firm since 2019, so this year they decided to recognize three law firms that have performed significant and excellent work during these last couple of years.

Peay, Welch and Jones were recognized for their work on a civil rights case. After plaintiff's original counsel withdrew, the court ordered the Clerk's Office to find pro bono counsel. The Snell & Wilmer team agreed to take the case in 2017 and stayed the course with a four-year representation through 10^th Circuit appeal and a jury verdict in 2021.

Peay is a partner whose practice is focused on general commercial litigation, including construction litigation, real estate and fraud related litigation, toxic tort defense and state procurement issues.

Welch, a partner, is a commercial litigator and trial attorney. He began his legal career as a criminal prosecutor and has worked on both sides of the criminal bar. He has tried felony cases before Utah juries and now applies those skills to high-conflict commercial litigation. Welch has a broad-based practice with a focus on contract disputes, corporate governance and entertainment law.

Jones is an associate whose practice focuses on complex commercial litigation. Jones has represented clients in a wide array of matters at the trial court and appellate levels, including disputes related to contracts, products liability, professional malpractice, employment, and insurance.
