By: Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association

PITTSBURGH - April 25, 2022 - PRLog -- The Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association (WPTLA) will be hosting its annual Judiciary Dinner at Heinz Field on May 6, 2022. This event honors the 19 judges who have either reached senior level status or have retired since 2019 in the U.S. District Court, Western District of Pennsylvania, Superior Court of Pennsylvania, and the Court of Common Pleas (Allegheny County, Bedford County, Butler County, Clarion County, Crawford County, Erie County, Indiana County, Venango County, Washington County and Westmoreland County).

In addition to the judicial recognitions, this event will also honor the 2021 and 2022 Champions of Justice – Jerry I. Meyers, Esq. and Charles E. Evans, Esq. The Champions of Justice award is given to a WPTLA member attorney who has dedicated their career to seeking justice and equality for the most vulnerable in our society.

The Daniel M. Berger Community Service Award will be given to past president, John P. Gismondi, Esq. for 2020 and Cindy Miklos of Planet Depos for 2022. This award is named in memory of one of the founding partners of Berger, Lagnese & Paul, LLC. WPLTA donates $2,500 to the recipient's charitable organization of choice. The 2022 donation comes from contributions from WPTLA, Berger, Lagnese & Paul, Kontos, Mengine, Killion & Hassen, and NFP Structured Settlements.

Mr. Gismondi and his wife created The Gismondi Foundation and regularly awards grants to local organizations whose mission is to provide for the necessities in life, such as food, housing, education, medical care, and family support.

Mrs. Miklos has worked tirelessly raising money for JDRF after her youngest daughter, Abbey, was diagnosed with Type 1 in 2017.

WPTLA will also be awarding $2,000 to each of our 2022 Scholarship Essay award winners. Each year, WPLTA invites all public and private high schools within the Western District of Pennsylvania to participate in the contest.

This event will also recognize the contribution of $34,250 from the WPLTA President's Challenge 5K Run/Walk/Wheel to the Steelwheelers. This is the largest donation in the 21 years the event has taken place.
