"OPERATION TOOL KIT"

"Getting mechanic's tools into the right hands"

For over 30 years the Rotary Clubs of Schaumburg/Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg Rotary A. M. have worked together to award over $800,000 in scholarships to local high school and community college applied technology students.  Our objectives are to help students overcome barriers to higher education, provide a vetted and certified workforce, elevate students' earning potential and improve the economic health of our communities.

Local Rotarians and the Hoffman Estates High School Applied Technology Department have identified a key missing component in the placement of aspiring auto mechanics into post high school applied technology programs, auto union internships and/or entry level jobs.  This missing component is a $2,000-$3,000 required tool kit. Typically there are 20-25 students enrolled in the automotive programs in Hoffman Estates, Conant and Schaumburg High Schools who struggle to pay for necessary tools.  This is a significant barrier to entrance into certificated training programs and/or the workforce.

The goal of the program is to provide 20-25 kits annually to vetted high school seniors in the automotive program.  To accomplish this, the clubs are collaborating with high school applied technology departments, area Rotary clubs, automotive repair shops, auto dealerships and private donors to sponsor these vitally needed tool kits.

The first annual "Operation Tool Kit" awards ceremony to recognize student achievement and celebrate this milestone of preparing certificated automotive technicians for the workforce will be held in the Hoffman Estates High School Automotive Lab on Wednesday, April 20, at 11 AM.
