MIAMI - April 11, 2022 - PRLog -- Dr. José L. Dotres, new Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent and engaged father, is pioneering Father engagement by supporting Fathers in Education Day, Thursday, April 21, and Fathers in Action & Advocacy Week, April 18-22, 2022.  On Fathers in Education Day, M-DCPS have invited all fathers and male mentors to come to schools to read and share activities with students in their K-12 classes. Thousands of fathers each year volunteer to support students' academics and their neighborhood schools. Statistics show that children's academics and social life benefit greatly when Fathers and male role models are involved in their lives.

Fathers in Action & Advocacy Week Workshops encompass a unique week celebrating the important and necessary role Fathers have in families as educators and as community advocates and relationship partners. Workshops such as What is Your Story; Early Literacy; Fathers as Leaders in Home and Community; Co-Parenting; Financial Literacy; Kids and Film; Maximizing Work Spaces; Dads' Clubs; and Spirituality & Family Values are just a few of the free workshops.

M-DCPS is spearheading this initiative in partnership with the Fatherhood Task Force of South Florida, a community organization whose mission is to increase the engagement of fathers in children's lives. "It's a win-win for the community...everyone benefits," stated Holly Zwerling, CEO/President of the Fatherhood Task Force. Ms. Zwerling is being recognized as a Woman Leader of Fatherhood during the upcoming 24th International Fatherhood Conference of the National Partnership for Community Leadership.  With the great support of the M-DCPS School Board, Office of Communications and Community Engagement, The Parent Academy, and Miami-Dade County, this initiative expands every year and serves as a beacon for other school districts. A major celebration is being planned for the 10th Anniversary of Fathers in Education Day and Fathers in Action & Advocacy Week in 2023.

Apollo Bank, Coral Gables, FL, is commended for crusading a positive action that will enable their male employees to take time off to volunteer on Fathers in Education Day, thus strengthening the initiative in M-DCPS. This measure demonstrates the importance of local business support of children's education and their local schools.

Fathers in Education Day and Fathers in Action & Advocacy Week are positive initiatives demonstrating that Miami-Dade County and M-DCPS have taken a leadership role in underscoring the importance of Father and male role model engagement in all children's lives and closing academic achievement gaps.
