Future proofing your workforce vital to long-term readiness

CANBERRA, Australia - April 5, 2022 - PRLog -- While it can be a challenging process and filled with hypotheticals, scenario planning helps organisations see hidden indicators, ensuring they prepare for the unexpected. At its core, scenario planning is detailing, hypothesising and documenting based on what "could" happen. It encourages workforce planners to conceptualise future circumstances and events that will impact the organisation. The Panorama subject matter experts have delved into just what scenario planning can achieve and provided some easy steps to get started.

The Panorama experts point to the recent global pandemic as an excellent example for the value of scenario planning. When COVID emerged back in 2019, many were taken by surprise. They didn't even have it on their radar. But go back 5-10 years, many leading scientists and epidemiologists noted that there was potential for one. The leading indicators were there.

Scenario planning helps spot these leading indicators. It allows organisations to think outside the box with contingencies for a variety of wild and not-so-wild possibilities.

"Good scenario planning takes the surprises out of workforce planning and ensures your organisation is ready for any number of future circumstances," said Blake Proberts (Co-Founder and Managing Director). "Most importantly, scenario planning is the key to understanding potential worst-case circumstances and how to avoid them."

While scenario planning seems daunting, the Panorama experts have devised four simple steps to distil down the process. Get started by brainstorming; put every possible thing down on paper. Next, use that information to identify trends and driving forces, and categorise them. A scenario planning template can help visualise this information. The last important step is to actually develop scenarios.

Ensure your organisation focuses on all scenarios, not just one. The scenarios also need to think short-term, medium-term and long-term. Each is equally valuable. Try not get too bogged down in detail, only the right amount of information is needed.
