By: Go Read, Go Gold! These two years, it's been tough on parents, educators, and students. Children learning to read have suffered. Toddlers learning to form words have suffered. With the coverings over our mouths and the stress of life during the pandemic, storytime stopped for many children. A Stanford University Newspaper reported that the pandemic's impact on learning among children in the earliest grades, stalled during the pandemic. For example, reading fluency in 2nd and 3rd grade is now 30 percent behind what would be expected in a typical year. A Girl Scout with the Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains has launched her Gold Award to combat this issue. LeAnne LeSage is creating a website and book to help parents and caregivers find resources on recovering reading losses. LeAnne has created http://www.goreadgogold.com which will cover a variety of tips and information to help caregivers get to reading with the child again in their life again. The resources are meant to help younger children catch up from the reading losses suffered due to the pandemic. Additional information related to the article can be found here: https://news.stanford.edu/ LeAnne LeSage, states, "Reading is the foundation of learning and provides a "Golden Future" for children. I believe my Gold Award Project "Go Read, Go Gold" will help children with this important skill. End
