Alten Construction breaks ground on Napa Valley Transportation Authority project

NAPA, Calif. - March 28, 2022 - PRLog -- Alten Construction, a full-service San Francisco Bay Area commercial construction company, recently broke ground on four new buildings for Napa Valley Transportation Authority (NVTA).

The commercial construction company began the expansion project last month and is expected to complete the project in July 2023. The $30 million project includes a 9,920-square-foot operations building, 18,424-square-foot maintenance building, 3,160-square-foot wash building and 224-square-foot trash enclosure.

The new state-of-the-art maintenance facility will also include electric vehicle charging stations to accommodate the arrival of its electric bus fleet. Alten Construction is also facilitating site grading and civil improvements, landscaping and irrigation, underground utilities and architectural improvements, among other items.

The current NVTA building serves as a holding center for buses and will continue to accommodate these services throughout construction.

"Accessible, clean, and affordable public transportation is vital for our way of life in the Napa Valley," said Kate Miller, NVTA executive director. "The Vine Bus Maintenance Facility is crucial to ensure the transit system can operate efficiently, adapt to new technologies, and grow to serve the people who live, work, and visit Napa Valley."

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Feb. 18 to commemorate the project. The event attracted 50 guests, and attendees heard from Alfredo Pedroza, NVTA Chair and Napa County Supervisor for the 4th District; Alix Bockelman, Deputy Executive Director for Policy at the Metropolitan Transportation Commission; Mitch Weiss, Executive Director of the California Transportation Commission; Ray Tellis, Region 9 Administrator for the Federal Transit Administration and Mike Thompson, Congressman for California's 5th Congressional District prior to the ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony on site.

Located at 96 and 101 Sheehy Court in Napa, the NVTA serves as the Congestion Management Agency for Napa County and is responsible for programming state and federal funds for local projects. A Joint Powers Authority, NVTA handles the county's short- and long-term regional transportation planning, working closely with its local, regional, state and federal partners to improve Napa County's streets, highways, bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
