Escape from Ukraine: A young mother of two children, eleven and five, escape their hometown of Kyiv

Journey into the Night: Julia and her two young children escape Kyiv to Poland just as a large bridge near their home collapsed from a missile attack.

RATHFARNHAM, Ireland - March 20, 2022 - PRLog -- Julia Kovalchuk and her two children flee their hometown of Kyiv to the Polish border with the support of her in-laws who drive them to Lviv.

They arrive at Lviv where they are told to wait for a train to Poland. Many people have already been waiting for nine days.

Julia meets a man who urges her to cross the Polish on foot instead of waiting as Russian military have already attacked areas near Kyiv.

Julia carries her son of five years in his arms and, with her other child of 11 years, runs for miles to reach Poland.

She hitches a lift from a truckdriver in Poland to Katowice where their flight to Spain awaits them. Using her mobile phone, Julia books a hotel near the airport. She and the children arrive at their hotel room at 1AM, exhausted but relieved to have secured accommodation.

The following morning, the family rises early to catch their flight to Tenerife. They arrive in the Canary Islands, greeted by their friends and delighted to have made it safely to their destination. They are now looking for accommodation and schools on the island where the children can settle in to a new life in a Spanish culture.
