Light Crossing Technology Corp.: What Can the Future of Traffic Signals Look Like?
A local startup aims to decrease the number of accidents and make collisions at intersections less frequent, providing a safe and efficient traffic signal system in an environmentally responsible and cost-effective manner.
The Light Crossing team believes hologram traffic lights will reduce the number of road collisions on intersections. But how do hologram traffic lights work? First, it is necessary to understand what holography is – a method to record patterns of light. A hologram is a photographic recording of a light field rather than an image formed by a lens. It is used to display a fully three-dimensional image of the photographed subject, which is seen without special glasses or other intermediate optics. Each major crossroad needs to be equipped with a hologram wall instead of a small signal light. It will cover the entire crosswalk zone, ensuring excellent recognition for the road operators. A highly visible hologram system will increase roads' safety and bring more attention to pedestrians and drivers.
The hologram system is based on plasma laser beam technology. It creates a virtual "wall", forcing vehicle operators to obey what ends up becoming a large, easily noticeable signal. The principle is formed on a laser projector that glows red or a shield that changes direction to stop either traffic and give way to pedestrians. The red screen is well visible from a distance, which is the system's most obvious advantage. Holographic light walls will have a set of four signals at each intersection. Each alert includes visual graphics indicating whether or not it's safe to cross. The new technology will reduce the number of accidents and make collisions at intersections a lot less frequent.
