By: Historic North Theatre To show symbolic support for children and other innocent victims of war, celebrity magician Wayne Alan, owner of the Historic North Theatre in Danville, VA has written 'дети' the Russian word for children on the sidewalk in front of his theatre. Earlier this week the Donetsk Regional Theatre of Drama in the Ukrainian city of Mariupo was bombed despite the Russian word for "children" had been marked on the ground in large letters to warn Russian jets away from the building. According to BBC, some 1,200 women and children had been seeking refuge in the theatre. Mr. Alan sent an email to nearly 700 theatres across America to encourage them to do the same. Many are members of the League of Historic American Theatres and the National Dinner Theatre Association. He encourages theatres around the world to follow suit in hopes that this theatrical show of unity will reap some positive benefits. Innocent children are always the most tragic victims of war and Mr. Alan is looking for more constructive ways to help these victims. He has also posted on his marquee, "Stop Russia-Pray for Ukraine." Shows at the Historic North theatre are family friendly with children always welcome. The privately owned theatre has been basically closed because of covid for two years but is planning to reopen in May.
