MANHATTAN, N.Y. - March 11, 2022 - PRLog -- DKBmed, LLC, in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the Institute for Johns Hopkins Nursing, is launching a seventh volume of eHIV Review. This latest installment, consisting of six newsletters and six podcasts, will distill findings from recent scientific studies in HIV and examine how clinicians can further optimize their practice.

The program can be found at ehivreview.org

The seventh volume of eHIV Review endeavors to help clinicians realize goals set in Ending the HIV Epidemic Initiative – a program launched by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in 2019. Achieving the objectives outlined in the initiative will require "innovative, community-driven solutions to leverage scientific advances in HIV prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and outbreak response." The US DHHS is aiming to reduce the number of new HIV diagnoses by 75% within 5 years and by 90% within 10 years. Other specific targets include ensuring that at least 95% of people with HIV diagnosis receive a diagnosis, that 95% of people with diagnosed HIV have a suppressed viral load, and that 50% of those at risk for acquiring HIV are prescribed pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Successfully executing these goals requires "expanding existing programs and responding to clinically, ethically, socially, and culturally relevant features of contemporary patients' experiences of stigma, oppression, and living with HIV."

In recent years, progress on these fronts has stalled, which reinforces the need for effective educational initiatives. "The decline in new HIV infections overall has not been uniform across all age groups and race/ethnicity groups, with increases in certain populations" states eHIV Review Program Director and Nurse Educator – Justin Alves, RN, ACRN, CARN from Boston Medical Center. "Improved screening, especially among populations at high risk of HIV, may effectively reduce the incidence of HIV."

Volume 7 of eHIV Review will examine critical topics relevant to care of patients with HIV, including:
  • Strategies to improve HIV screening, particularly among patient populations at the highest risk of acquiring HIV
  • The importance of rapid initiation of antiretroviral treatment (ART)
  • Integrating new HIV medications into treatment plans
  • Patient selection, administration, and clinical trial data for long-acting ART
  • Mitigating and managing adverse events associated with ART and effectively individualizing treatment for patients with HIV

eHIV Review is one component of the highly successful and popular eLiterature Review series published through DKBmed's collaboration with the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the Institute for Johns Hopkins Nursing. Each installment consists of a newsletter and podcast.
