FREE Community Event Celebrates Social-Emotional Health & Reading for Youth

CHARLESTON, S.C. - March 10, 2022 - PRLog -- Charleston County School District and Every 1 Voice Matters are partnering for Social Emotional Learning International Community Day, a reading and behavioral initiative event 12 p.m.- 3 p.m. at the Charleston County School District 4 Stadium, 3659 West Montague Ave. in North Charleston on March 26.

The free community event is a fun-filled day for families and individuals to learn how social emotional learning impacts children both inside and outside the classroom. Over 100 Lil Herbie Series Books will be given away to youth with empowerment speakers providing words of encouragement and inspiration. Free food, jump castles, game trucks, face painting, skating and vendors will be on site along with Z93 Jamz and Star 99.7 broadcasting live.

"We want to give our kids a day of learning and community fun," says Founder of Every 1 Voice Matters Sherrika Myers. "Our children face a lot and we need to identify with them on a level that is relatable and allows us to help them with their social and emotional challenges to become the best versions of themselves."

Myers' mission is to support youth who deal with stuttering, bullying and low-self esteem through reading and social emotional learning. This methodology helps students to better comprehend their emotions, to feel them fully and demonstrate empathy. As an author, Myers created the Lil Herbie Book Series that is geared toward social emotional learning and reading comprehension. The nonprofit founder is looking for individuals to support their initiative to help increase children's literacy.

Special guest speakers for Social Emotional Learning International Community Day include CCSD Chief of Staff Erica Taylor, State Representative Marvin Pendarvis, Positive Vibes Ronjanae Smith Founder Ronald Smith, PFW Consulting CEO Kenya Dunn and Charleston County Public Safety's Eric Watson. Community partners include Boeing, North Charleston Fire Department, Charleston Hispanic Association, Doughty Law Firm, Charleston County Democrats, Diamond Cutz, Frazier Law Offices, Game Galaxy, Charleston RISE, The Beginning Place, DEEP SC, My Community's Keeper Mentor Group and I AM VOICES. Live music will be provided by DJ Sam Wells.

Sponsor options are available to purchase books from the Lil Herbie Series Book Collection to be given away for free during the event. Books are available in English and Spanish. For more information, visit https://www.every1voicematters.org or email every1voicematters@gmail.com.
