Guide to Life After High School Helps Youth in Foster Care Prepare for Career Success

LOS ANGELES - March 9, 2022 - PRLog -- Fostering Media Connections (FMC), a nonprofit media organization dedicated to child welfare and youth justice issues, will release a first-of-its-kind national guide to life after high school for youth who have spent time in foster care. The guide shares youths' success stories and explains how to navigate the various career paths a young person might choose, whether it's college, vocational training or the military.

Career Ready, College Prepared is a 64-page, full-color print magazine that will serve youth and their caregivers as they plan for their futures. It is being distributed to families and youth-supporting programs across the country. Philanthropy partners who are contributing to the distribution efforts include Stuart Foundation, Greater Texas Foundation, ECMC Foundation and Rose Hills Foundation.

The guide's content was curated by the editorial team behind Fostering Families Today magazine with assistance from experts with lived experience in the foster care system. It includes a national database, sortable by state, of resources and programs available to help youth find mentors, internships and financial assistance to help pay for their college education.

"All foster kids need to be exposed to this guide. Anyone involved in or invested in their care, and who wants them to succeed in life – this is also for them. We need to start that narrative as young as possible," said Ivory Bennett, project manager for Career Ready, College Prepared.

A limited number of print copies of Career Ready, College Prepared can be ordered online through March 14, 2022 on the Fostering Families Today website at http://bit.ly/caready. Digital access to the guide will also be available for purchase starting April 1, 2022. A virtual event is planned for April 28, 2022.
