MANCHESTER, U.K. - March 8, 2022 - PRLog -- .Swedish car maker Volvo has begun testing wireless charging technology in a live city environment for future electric cars.

Compatible cars stop over charging pads that have been embedded into the road, meaning electric vehicle owners don't have to exit the car to boost the batteries.

Each charging session starts automatically when a compatible vehicle parks over the blue square charging pads fitted into the street at the dedicated stations in the Swedish city. The charging station sends energy through the charging pad, which is picked up by a receiver unit that sits under the car close to the front axle.

The three-year trial uses a small fleet of fully electric Volvo XC40 Recharge SUV taxis that will be able to access dedicated wireless charging stations in Gothenburg, Sweden. It is expected that many countries will adopt this system after successful testing. This will eliminate the need for cables to effect charges - cables which are beginning to  be a target for thieves.because of the scrap metal value.
