MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - March 2, 2022 - PRLog -- The Wall Street Journal recently published a story headlined this: "Thanks to Remote Work, Many in Gen Z May Never Work in an Office. Will It Matter?" The way we work in the internet age has evolved quickly, so much that we now have a generation of workers who likely won't recognize much of what has been the traditional office environment.

It is clear that the trend toward remote work has come from multiple sources. Technology has made it so that much of the work in advanced economies - including software development, web based interaction, and other computer-based jobs - can be done among individuals and teams of people who have not even met in real life, or who can get away with limited physical interaction.

Statista projects that freelancers will comprise over half of the workforce  in the United States by the year 2027, with a the total number of freelancers topping 86 million.

The past two years of government response to a virus, whether they were justified or not, have caused the vast majority of office staff to have to adapt to a "socially distanced" work environment. Leaving behind long, unproductive commutes and working independently, with Zoom and other meeting applications to handle coordination needs, has become the new norm for companies focused on technology and a spectrum of other industries, including education, consulting, and others. According to the February 2022 Market Report, the Global Web and Video Conferencing SaaS industry is expected to continue reach $7 billion by the year 2026.

Remote Work Versus Independents Working From Home
The work from home contingency obviously includes much more than those whose employers have okayed or encouraged getting the work done at home. Occupations such as freelance writers, internet marketers, small ecommerce businesses, online educators, and full-time bloggers are continuing to increase in popularity. The convenience of not having to travel, especially with less predictability with gas and other costs associated with travel, will likely add fuel to that trend.

The outcome? The next generation of those who work any type of white-collar desk job may not relate to The Office and other forms of stereotyping the office environment.
