Central Figure In Puerto Rico Rock Scene Goes Solo
Sammy Vélez Has Played In Menudo And Other Headliners For Decades
By: Drilo's Den, LLC
Sammy Vélez, born in Puerto Rico, is a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter who spent decades touring and performing with headliners like Menudo (22 years), Pedro Capó, (10 years), Tommy Torres (10 years), and Ednita Nazario. Just last December, Vélez was in Mexico singing with Menudo. Recognized for igniting the careers of artists such as Ricky Martin and Robi Draco Rosa, some have said Menudo was Puerto Rico's answer to The Jackson Five.
Vélez hasn't just been busy touring with some of the biggest names in Latin music – his voice has also been used for major advertising campaigns by companies such as Burger King, Banco Popular, Telemundo, Holsum, and Palo Viejo.
Now, armed with a stellar portfolio of veteran musicians and his new record label Drilo's Den, he is launching his solo career with his first single "Lloviendo En La Ciudad" – an anthemic rock song that demands attention from the very first second. Drums provided by Rai Torres blow off the top to make room for Noel González's lush guitars, and of course Sammy's unmistakeable voice. Vélez adds, "Lloviendo is a song about fire and water… a burning romance."
"We've been having a great time working on the new music," says Vélez. "I've been playing with such incredibly talented people for so long now, and we've had some of the most amazing experiences together… but this is different because it's my own music. We're really excited to be taking this to the next level, and I hope everyone joins us on this new journey!"
Established in 2021, Drilo's Den is a boutique record label and music production house based in Orlando, Florida. Founding partners Juan Torres and Adam Chadwick say, "We feel honored to be working with Sammy and his crew, and we're very excited about 2022."
