Wells International Foundation Joins Black Impact Houston

in Seeking Funding Equity for Black-led Non-profit Organizations
HOUSTON - Feb. 24, 2022 - PRLog -- The Wells International Foundation (WIF), a U.S. nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower women, children and youth, and persons of African descent to realize their highest potential through arts, literacy, study abroad, and other educational and cultural programs, today announced its membership in Black Impact Houston (BIH) – an alliance of Black non-profits seeking to advance racial equity in the philanthropic arena.

During 2020 and 2021, America's need to reckon with its racial history was brought into stark relief as we witnessed some of the most racially charged events in recent years.  In response, Houston's philanthropic community vowed to "do better and do more" to ensure greater racial diversity and equity in its funding.  BIH members are putting that commitment to the test and are working to engage decision makers from the giving community to increase the amount of funding and other resources for the benefit of black non-profits.  The group, which represents a cross-section of Houston's Black non-profits, is 26 organizations strong and growing.

Dr. Monique Y. Wells, WIF's founder and CEO, commented that BIH's work is vitally important:

"Nothing is more powerful than having people and organizations that are aligned in mission, vision, and purpose come together in a spirit of collaboration to create positive change.  The work that Black Impact Houston has undertaken to unite so many extraordinary non-profits in the greater Houston area to advocate for fair and equitable funding for the work we do in our communities is invaluable."

Black Impact Houston's
mission is to support and strengthen Houston's Black nonprofit community through belonging, education, advocacy, mentorship, and leadership.

Through its member organizations, BIH serves thousands of Greater Houston's most vulnerable residents and provides a range of services and offerings, including after-school enrichment, workforce development, community development and affordable housing, music and arts promotion and education, criminal justice reform, public health, and a host of other services critical to the empowerment and liberation of Black people. BIH empowers its nonprofit members to become integral partners in successfully building vibrant, equitable communities.
