AJUSD to Receive $12 Million in Grant Money for Facilities Improvements

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. - Feb. 17, 2022 - PRLog -- Apache Junction Unified School District is estimated to receive more than $12 million in much needed facilities improvements thanks to grants from the Arizona School Facilities Board.  Work is currently underway for the following projects:

• AJHS Weatherization $1,238,804.78 (AJUSD portion $153,570).
• AJHS Roofing $5,564,214.75 (AJUSD portion estimate $600,000).
• CCJH Weatherization estimated $1 million (AJUSD portion unknown at this time).
• CCJH Roofing estimated $1 million (AJUSD portion unknown at this time).
• DVES Weatherization estimated $950,000.00 (AJUSD portion unknown at this time).
• DVES Roofing estimated $1.35 million (AJUSD portion unknown at this time).
• FPES Weatherization estimated $800,000 (AJUSD portion unknown at this time).
• FPES Roofing estimated $475,789 (AJUSD portion unknown at this time).
• PTES Weatherization estimated $600,000 (AJUSD portion unknown at this time).
• PTES Roofing estimated $900,000 (AJUSD portion unknown at this time).
• PTES AC unit $4,419.70 (District portion 0).

"It's been more than 20 years since most of our buildings have been painted," said Larry Hill, director of facilities. "Weatherization consists of one coat of primer sealer and two coats of paint, adjusting doors and adding new weather-stripping around each door and replacing windows with low E-windows and resealing all windows. Roofing consists of resealing some roofs and replacing others. Once these two projects are done we will have sealed buildings which will help with the integrity and life span of the buildings and will help with our energy cost."

Completed projects include a new air conditioning unit for a classroom at Peralta Trail Elementary School, 10965 E. Peralta Trail in Gold Canyon. The district has already submitted additional grants for other projects. Updates will be discussed at school board meetings and posted on the district website, www.ajusd.org.

The Arizona School Facilities Board evaluates the school capital needs of K-12 school districts and distributes monies to school districts in order to address existing deficiencies, and to provide funds for building renewal and new school construction.
