GAINESVILLE, Ga. - Feb. 3, 2022 - PRLog -- Founded in 1971, MyGeorgia Credit Union has a long history of "Helping People Afford Life." Beyond the loans, accounts and services it extends to its more than 20,000 members across 12 counties in Northeast Georgia, the financial institution believes in giving back to its neighbors in need in ways big and small. Last June, it hosted blood drives at four of its branches. For Thanksgiving, it sponsored Thanksgiving meals for two local families. And over the holiday season, its branches served as a drop-off location for Toys for Tots and its staff members made sure a local family of nine had a very Merry Christmas. Now, at the start of 2022, MyGeorgia Credit Union is pleased to announce a $2,700 donation to both Habersham County United Way and United Way of Hall County – where those funds will be distributed within the communities MyGeorgia serves.

"I can't think of a better way to kick off the New Year," said Joe Foster, President and CEO of MyGeorgia Credit Union. "By donating to United Way, we're able to help people from all walks of life in the Northeast Georgia community we call home. I am so proud of the way the MyGeorgia staff came together over the last few months, clearly demonstrating that the support of families in the communities we serve is a priority. After all, community service is at the root of who we are at MyGeorgia."

Through its 2-1-1 initiative, United Way connects families with the community-based resources they need to thrive – resources that can put food on tables, sharpen and edit resumes, keep lights on or even provide clothes after a house fire so families can keep moving forward. It also grants funds to programs that provide direct services to meet the most pressing needs, falling into three focus areas: basic needs, early childhood success, and workforce development. Foster encourages others to follow MyGeorgia's example and make a donation to either Habersham County United Way or United Way of Hall County.

Unlike a traditional bank, MyGeorgia is a not-for-profit organization owned by its members and directed by a voluntary board of directors. The Directors are credit union members who are elected by the membership and serve without pay. MyGeorgia Credit Union membership is open to those living and working within a 12-county district including Banks, Clarke, Dawson, Habersham, Hall, Jackson, Lumpkin, Madison, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Rabun and White Counties.
