Follow on Google News | Global Learning Charter Public School Continues Successful Dual Enrollment with Bristol CCStudents can earn college credits at Bristol Community College at no cost while completing high school.
By: PR First GLCPS Dual Enrollment course offerings are available for students in grades 11-12. By participating in Dual Enrollment, students can prepare for post-secondary studies while enhancing their high school GPA, and making themselves more competitive in the college admission process. High School and college credit is awarded for successful completion of Dual Enrollment courses, therefore students often receive advanced academic placement when they enroll in college. This can offer students and their families' considerable savings on the total cost of a higher education. "The Dual Enrollment program gives out students a real opportunity to get ahead," said Dr. Stephen Furtado, Executive Director of GLCPS. "The experience of learning at the college level and the confidence it builds in our students is truly amazing. We also applaud our students for their dedication to learning and the commitment to taking on additional challenges. Bristol Community College is a great partner and we look forward to continuing our programs together." About Global Learning Public Charter School Open to New Bedford residents, Global Learning Charter Public School (GLCPS) is a tuition-free public charter school that currently serves 500 students in grades 5-12. Launched in 2002 as a Horace Mann charter school, GLCPS became a Commonwealth charter school in 2006. In order to generate a culture of personalization, the school setting and class sizes are deliberately small. Students, faculty and administration know each other well and teachers are able to tailor the curriculum to the needs and level of each student. GLCPS offers an exciting and challenging interdisciplinary curriculum that follows and builds upon the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Students learn to work collaboratively in teams, use technology meaningfully in their coursework, strengthen all elements of their communication skills, as well as develop the necessary skills to become engaged and ethical contributors to a global society. GLCPS capitalizes on the exceptional resources of the region (for example, marine sciences), and ties these resources to their curriculum and instruction.
