LOS ANGELES - Jan. 23, 2022 - PRLog -- Classical Conductors & Composers with Earl Ofari Hutchinson Saturdays 10:00 AM to 11:AM PDT and 1:00 to 2:00 PM EDT on KPFK-Pacifica Radio Los Angeles, and streamed at kpfk.org is one answer to this downtrend in classical music. The show will exclusively feature the greatest composers and their greatest works with the greatest orchestras. The Classical masters such as Toscanini are conducting the Beethoven 5th, Leinsdorf conducting the Mozart 41 (Jupiter), George Solti conducting the Brahms 1, and many more.

"The old masters from Bach to Shostakovich span many decades of classical music," says Hutchinson," Their influence on all aspects, styles, and modes of Western and non-traditional music is well-established." However, Hutchinson notes that the appreciation of their works has in recent years taken a significant nosedive in radio and even concert hall playing time and thus interest.

This is reflected in three unfortunate trends. One is the continuing demise of music stations that program exclusively classical music. The second is the trend to program more contemporary music than classical music on stations that program classical music. Then there are the increased costs to attend classical music concert performances.

"It's the first two trends that are the most problematic," says Hutchinson, "that contribute most to the inability to continue to expand interest in the works of the prominent classical composers of the past. That's particularly problematic when attracting more young persons to listen to and appreciate classical music. This requires continuous exposure to the music on the air and in concert venues.

"The thinking among many in the classical music world is that by 'modernizing' classical music, this will generate interest and attract younger audiences to the concert halls," observes Hutchinson, "In most instances, this has not been the case."

Classical Conductors & Composers with Earl Ofari Hutchinson is a program that provides the novice listener with an easy-to-understand assessment of the style, structure, and intent of the major classical works. He combines that with amusing, exciting, and in some cases, little-known factoids about the composers and their works. The music will be continuous for the hour, spiced with a laser look at the conductors and the featured works.

"One other feature of the show, says Hutchinson, will be periodic listener-call-ins. He'll provide listeners with an opportunity to comment on or ask questions about classical music, the work played, or classical music in general. It's a show that reminds us that the old in classical music is still very much the new.
