BOSTON - Jan. 19, 2022 - PRLog -- The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) has named John Hopkins student Walee Attia as a recipient of the 2021 Education Corporation Presidents' Scholarship.

A resident of Randolph, Attia is in his junior year of undergraduate studies at Johns Hopkins University, working towards a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering. He is a member of the NCAA Varsity Men's Soccer team and participates in various community service activities and cultural events in both the Baltimore and greater Boston area. Attia's interest in learning how to engineer practical solutions led him to pursue coursework and research opportunities in both biomedical engineering and computer science. He recently worked on a team-based design project applying imaging technology and a novel tissue flattening device to optimize Mohs surgery for skin cancer. His professor noted that Attia was performing very well on his part of the project and is "hard working, dependable, creative, and very good at getting things to work." Attia said this project helped him understand the need to be able to "toggle between a technical mindset and a big picture outlook on the most effective approach to implementation."

The ACEC/MA Education Corporation Presidents' Scholarship is an annual award designed to encourage and reward students studying engineering or land surveying.  It was established in 2009 and is funded by donations from ACEC/MA members and supported by the Scholarship's annual fall golf tournament.

"The Presidents' Scholarship is one of the many ways ACEC/MA recognizes emerging industry leaders," said Dennis J. Baker, President of ACEC/MA and Vice President and Area Manager for WPS. "We congratulate Walee on his outstanding achievement and have every confidence a career in Biomedical Engineering will bring him much success and great satisfaction."
