Eastridge Center commissions community mural to celebrate 50th anniversary

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Jan. 12, 2022 - PRLog -- In partnership with nonprofit Local Color (https://www.localcolorsj.org/) and artist Frankie McFly (https://www.frankiemcfly.com/), Eastridge Center celebrated its 50^th anniversary with the commission of a new mural. Inspired by the "Greetings From" mural group Greetings Tour (Victor Ving and Lisa Beggs), the mural reads "Greetings from Eastridge" and showcases local history and landmarks relevant to San Jose. Local community members and children were invited to participate in a Community Mural Day to add their own touches to the mural.

"With this mural, it was really cool to bring this full circle," said Frankie McFly, mural artist. "My parents would bring me here as a kid when they went shopping. It's great to put into Eastridge what Eastridge put into me. I get to add my flavor to Eastridge where Eastridge added its flavor to me and greatly impacted me growing up."

Awarded the Business Support for the Arts Award from the City of San Jose Office of Cultural Affairs and the Arts Commission in 2018 for significant and long-lasting impact on San Jose's art and cultural landscape, Eastridge Center has more than 20,000 square feet of exterior murals, spotlighting California artists and establishing the center as the largest façade of mural space on a shopping center in the country.
