By: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd
MUMBAI, India - Dec. 27, 2021 - PRLog -- Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) has undertaken five major projects to promote Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at its workplace. These CSR initiatives are aimed at helping various underprivileged communities at locations where BPCL operates its different facilities.

BPCL has undertaken Project Akshar, in Nandurbar region in Maharashtra and Sagar in Madhya Pradesh. This project covers some 1,059 villages and more than 100,000 students, mainly from tribal communities in the regions. The project was undertaken after it was found that most students drop out of primary school due to learning difficulties. These difficulties were attributed to the difference in the way these students speak the language and the manner of teaching.

Water Conservation:

Under the name, Project Boond (drop), BPCL has taken an extensive water conservation project at Kolar in Karnataka state. The project benefits some 230 villages in the Kolar region. Project Boond was undertaken since the region was facing extreme water scarcity which caused poor development and loss of income for local farmers and residents. Now, farmers in the Kolar region are growing mango, mulberry, groundnut, pulses and other crops that suit the region's geography and soil.

As part of India's efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic and ensure proper healthcare facilities for victims, BPCL has set up PSA Oxygen Plants at government hospitals in Maharashtra, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh. Kochi refinery is supplying medical grade oxygen 100 MT/month in Kerala and Mumbai Refinery is to provide oxygen about 300 Tons/month to Maharashtra. Additionally, BPCL is providing medical equipment, PPE kits, food and vaccination related cold chain equipment to the government at various locations across the country.

Skills Development:

BPCL along with other oil companies is promoting the Skill Development Institute (SDI) in Kochi. This SDI aims at providing vocational training to youth and enhance their employability and entrepreneurial abilities in the oil and gas sectors and other Industries. The SDI consists of a state-of-the-art campus with latest equipment for studies and practical work.
The courses at this SDI comply with the National Skills Qualification Framework of the National Skills Development Corporation.

Community Development:

Various community development programs are also undertaken by BPCL at various locations in India. Top among these are project by the BPCL-Kochi Refinery, known as the Family Strengthening Program. The project focuses on the holistic development of 143 tribal children by providing healthcare services, nutrition support, enabling access to basic education in nearby areas of "Ooru", enhancement of livelihood, reduction in school dropouts and Vocational Skill Development. As part of Project Shakti, women SHG members were trained on bakery production, operation, material purchase, order management, banking and cash management.
