CHATHAM, Ontario - Dec. 20, 2021 - PRLog -- Opened in 1967, Buxton National Historic Site and Museum celebrates, preserves, exhibits, and interprets historical artifacts related to the Elgin (Buxton) Settlement from its founding in 1849 to the late 19th century. Today, the museum is pleased to announce the launch of an innovative initiative, in partnership with Driftscape, that is aimed at creating easy access to the sites and stories of the settlement and its descendants for visitors and researchers from across North America. "The Buxton Museum is absolutely thrilled to be working with Driftscape as we believe this partnership will enrich our visitor experience, taking it to the next level. As a museum, accessibility to our resources is something we strive for and this partnership allows us to provide exactly that: a fun and easy way for guests of all ages to learn about the Elgin settlement. We look forward to continuing this partnership with Driftscape to deliver history in a fun and interactive way for generations to come!" Says Mariah, Assistant Curator, Buxton National Historic Site and Museum Did you know that the Buxton Liberty Bell holds a special symbolism to its community! Back then, every time a newly escaped slave arrived in the region the bell was rung to signify the beginning of their new life in a land of freedom and opportunity. Visitors can see a replica of this 1850 historic monument at the Buxton National Historic Site. Now, you can uncover this and many other interesting sites such as an 1861 schoolhouse build by fugitive slaves, a cabin built by an early Buxton settler, an old railway station, gravestones of some very influential settlers, as well as interactive 360 Self-guided Tours of the museum on the Driftscape app. In the coming weeks the Museum also plans to launch a unique scavenger hunt, leveraging the app's Quest feature, creating a gamified experience for all its visitors. The quest is designed to take the app users across the museum grounds, helping them learn about everyday life in the Buxton Settlement, listen to stories of the settlers, and uncover historic sites in a fun and engaging way. The partnership will also help Buxton National Historic Site and Museum share real-time information with locals and visitors. Coupled with the app's many user engagement features such as augmented reality, offline mode, trip itineraries, and more, the museum is all set to create a modern-day exploration experience for people of all ages and interests!
