Alten Construction completes HVAC upgrades on two San Rafael schools

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Dec. 9, 2021 - PRLog -- Alten Construction, a full-service San Francisco Bay Area commercial construction company, recently completed heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) upgrades on Davidson Middle School and Bahia Vista Elementary School in San Rafael.

Located at 280 Woodland Ave, Davidson Middle School is a sixth-grade through eighth-grade public school home to 1,191 students. The upgrades spanned 45,000 square feet and included updates to existing mechanical systems, electrical service improvements, replacement of existing mechanical units, installation of ground mounted units and security enclosures to protect upgraded mechanical units.

Bahia Vista Elementary School is a kindergarten through fifth-grade public school located at 125 Bahia Way and serves 557 students. The HVAC upgrades completed by Alten Construction consisted of 25,000 square feet of associated architectural and electrical work for the new HVAC equipment.

"These new systems are much more efficient than the old ones that only had on/off capabilities," said Jered Smith, project engineer at Alten Construction. "Individual classrooms are now able to better maintain their desired temperatures, which creates a more balanced and comfortable environment for students and staff."

Both schools had CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) monitors installed to properly maintain CO2 levels in the classrooms and reduce excessive outside air, allowing for an increased efficiency of the system.

"We're incredibly appreciative of the community for supporting these school improvements," said Dan Zaich, senior director of capital improvements, sustainability and construction for San Rafael City Schools. "The heating, ventilation, air conditioning and carbon dioxide detection sensors will be vital to keeping students and staff safe and warm for learning in our classrooms. This is one of the very last projects of Measure A from the 2015 bond approved by district taxpayers, and Alten Construction did a great job finishing these projects on an accelerated schedule over the summer."

The projects were completed in a two month period over the summer. To date, Alten Construction has completed a number of projects for K-12 and higher educational facilities throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
