Convincing new Norwegian heart sensor

BERLIN - Dec. 7, 2021 - PRLog -- The innovative ECG247 heart sensor, developed and manufactured in Norway, proves to be better in a direct comparison than the cardiac arrhythmia detection devices previously used by most hospitals and cardiac specialists worldwide. This is the finding of a new study published in the Journal of Healthcare Engineering. "ECG247 makes it easier to detect severe cardiac arrhythmias before they cause symptoms," says Tord Ytterdahl, developer and CEO of Appsens AS and ECG247.

The ECG247 heart sensor was developed in collaboration with researchers at Sorlandet Hospital and the University of Agder. The system consists of a small, reusable sensor that is attached over the sternum with a special patch. The sensor communicates with an app on the smartphone and uses artificial intelligence to analyze the heart rhythm in real time. The results can be easily shared with a primary care physician or cardiologist. ECG247 is already used by many GPs and cardiologists in Norway.

Edvard L. Sandberg, a physician and doctoral student at Sorlandet Hospital, in collaboration with researchers at Oslo University Hospital and St. Olavs Hospital, compared the ECG247 heart sensor with standard hospital equipment for detecting cardiac arrhythmias (known as a Holter examination or long-term ECG). In the study, both systems were applied to 150 patients for several days. The ECG247 sensor detected arrhythmias as well as Holter technology, but had far fewer erroneous test results. In addition, the study showed that ECG247 was easier and more convenient to use than a conventional Holter device.
