Embarking on a digital engineering career path

Danielle Delaney-Anderson was the first person to enter the Academy programme and has gone on to a fast-paced career.

After a degree in software engineering and a work placement in a digital agency, Danielle knew she wanted a career in digital and wanted to find a company that offered a wide variety of work. At Answer, she found opportunities to work on a wide range of technology and fresh challenges regularly.

With work ranging from the development of cutting edge technology to client-facing technical consultancy, Danielle has been able to continually move forwards, gaining valuable business experience.

Danielle said: "The Academy was a real learning curve for me and Answer. Everyone was super supportive and wanted to help out. It was a really positive experience, and while the structure of the programme has evolved, it still has the same culture where people have your back."

Answer's culture is evident in every aspect of Answer, and in 2020 it became employee-owned, which gives everyone a say in the future of the business.

Danielle has worked extensively in the finance sector with projects offering a variety of experience from proof of concept to the development of complex financial platforms. She has advanced in her career from developer to senior consultant.

Under the Answer Career Ladders programme, every employee has a transparent view of their role and responsibilities and understands the skills and experience they need to advance. The journey is supported by a career guide who holds regular meetings to ensure everyone has access to the training and experience they need to get to where they want to go.

Danielle got involved in the development of the programme and has seen a real change in the business; she said: "The Career Ladder programme puts you in control of your career and makes you aware of Answer's direction. You are much more aware of how you fit into the bigger picture and the part you need to play.

"Employee ownership is a great move for Answer. It really cements the culture and values that have shaped the business. Everyone has always had a voice at Answer, but it's much clearer now, and there are clear structures to get involved and have your say. Overall I think it's had a  positive impact on my career and on things like bonus structures, which are much more transparent now.

"I think my journey highlights the many positives about the business. Working at Answer is not about being a number; it's about being a person and having the support to grow."
