Florida Rising's Cheryl R. Waide named Communications Director of the Year

TAMPA, Fla. - Nov. 29, 2021 - PRLog -- Florida Rising, one of the largest racial justice and political action groups in Florida, is proud to announce that its Statewide Communications Director, Cheryl R. Waide, is this year's recipient of the prestigious Gold Globee "Communications Director of the Year'' award. Waide was recognized for leading Florida Rising's Dignity for Incarcerated Women's communications initiatives in 2020.

"We are extremely proud of the work of our Statewide Communications Director, Cheryl Waide," said Chevalier Lovett, Chief Operating Officer for Florida Rising. "Cheryl brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the communications world especially in movement based work. Because of her leadership, many communities and issues have been highlighted—particularly communities of color that are often left behind. Cheryl has created a legacy that others will emulate for decades to come."

Waide, a New York City native, graduated cum laude from Campbell University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, and from Strayer University with a Master of Business Administration. She served as Communications Director at New Florida Majority, the legacy organization that merged with Organize Florida to form Florida Rising. Prior to joining New Florida Majority in 2018, Waide served as Deputy Communications Director for a ranking member of the United States Congress in Florida's delegation for two years. Before her stint in the United States House of Representatives, she held management positions at several Fortune 500 companies including Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, Iheart Media, Discovery Channel, and MTV Networks, where she honed her skills in online and offline paid and earned media strategy development, rapid response messaging, crisis public relations, government affairs, issue management, branding, project and staff management.
