Fort Myers Fire Department stations accept donation dropoffs through Monday

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Nov. 16, 2021 - PRLog -- Fort Myers Fire Department stations are serving as collection points through Monday, Nov. 22 for Community Cooperative's annual Full Plates Project to collect and distribute Thanksgiving meals to the area's hungry.

Donations being collected include turkeys, canned corn, canned fruit, canned yams, can/jar gravy, canned green beans, boxed cornbread or muffin mix, boxed mash potatoes, stuffing mix, dessert mix (brownies or cake) and money for Community Cooperative to purchase items.

Fort Myers Fire Department stations will be collecting items for the drive at:
  • Station 1, 2033 Jackson St.
  • Station 2, 1035 Terry St.
  • Station 3, 1915 Jefferson Ave.
  • Station 4, 4520 Cummins Ct.
  • Station 5, 9700 Treeline Ave.
  • Station 6, 4000 Shoemaker Blvd.

FineMark Bank & Trust collected items and donations at its Fort Myers office through Nov. 12 and matched donations for $5,000.

The annual Full Plates Project seeks to make sure there are no plates empty this Thanksgiving. The drive offers the opportunity to donate food, host a food drive or donate $50 to sponsor a family Thanksgiving basket. Baskets include a 10 to 15-pound turkey, canned corn, dessert mix, boxed mashed potatoes, canned fruit, disposable turkey roasting pan, stuffing mix, boxed cornbread/muffin mix, canned yams, green beans, can/jar gravy. Community Cooperative hopes to get 3,000 turkeys for efforts this year.

All items need to be delivered by 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19 at Community Cooperative, 3429 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd., Fort Myers, or at a Fort Myers Fire Department Station through Monday, Nov. 22.

Additional holiday outreach includes:
  • Adopt-a-Senior where supporters are paired with senior clients through the Meals on Wheels program to provide a gift to be distributed by Meals on Wheels close to Christmas
  • Adopt-a-Family where supporters are matched with families that need gifts for children.

Deadline for the December adoption programs is Dec. 17.
