Against Odds, MATTE BLACKE Releases "Bits And Pieces"

Denton alt-rock vets release new album after tragic member death

DALLAS - Nov. 15, 2021 - PRLog -- Steve Wilson emerged upon UNT in 1997.  Performing locally, Steve crossed paths with Grammy-Award-winning producer Eric Delegard, yet it would be nearly two decades before they would work together.
Delegard, for over two decades, has served as one of the most prolific producers in the Southwest. Relocating from Minneapolis to study music at UNT, his studio Reeltime Audio, would become home to many local and national artists, garnering him a Grammy Award in the process.
Wilson, graduating from UNT in 2000, returned to Denton in 2018. With the majority of 2019 spent performing, 2020 was shaping up to be a busy year, until suddenly halted by the pandemic response.
In the spring of 2021, Wilson booked his first session at Reeltime.
Though that session would not make the cut, it would be prolific. At Delegard's suggestion, a future session was booked with fellow UNT Music Alumnus Matt Thompson.

Matt began playing drums at age 9. Two weeks after graduating from the UNT music program in 2000, he was offered the drummer position for theatrical Heavy Metal music icon, King Diamond, with whom he still tours internationally.

"It turns out, that's exactly what the sauce needed" says Wilson.

Recording 11 songs, with Delegard pulling triple duty as bassist, producer and engineer, the foundations were solidly layed, and it was time to find the right guitarist.

"When in Rome!" Wilson laughed, and UNT music-grad Daran DeShazo soon signed on the project, providing the iconic guitar for which this album will be remembered.
"I think I spent most of those sessions just in awe" Wilson remarked about DeShazo's guitar-prowess. "His fingers defy logic!"

"Starting in April, the album was basically finished by August, but we agreed that it needed another voice for background vocals. Delegard reached out to his good friend, Droo D'anna. This provided the final bittersweet ingredient to the mix.

In the last two studio sessions that he would record, Droo sang background vocals on the 11 tracks of 'Bits And Pieces', and the keys on "Welcome To The Show."
"I just had no idea that it would be the last time we would all be the the same room together" said Wilson.
Droo would tragically pass away within 6 weeks of their last session.

Containing 11 songs, including the single "RED OR BLUE", 'Bits And Pieces' by MΔΤΤΕ BLΔCKE is available on all streaming outlets. Chest-thumping percussion, rhythmic precision, jaw-dropping guitars, buttery vocals, and rock-solid lyrics, it has firmly placed Denton back on the the alternative rock map. The album was dedicated to the memory of Droo D'anna.
